making speakup speed up

Hello,
Was wondering if there is a way to change the rate, pitch, volume and speech.
I just got grml running under vmware and love it, but would like a bit more control over things.

sorry for all the messages.
I've got another problem. for some random reason, when I use alt+fw and 
others, it does some 0 clear 0 zed ssh stuff... and is randomly printing out 
my uptime.
Any reason for this?
I've also noticed that it seems to spell out the first line of a command, is 
this just a bug?

Insert or CapsLock plus F1 is the help system.
	(Press Space to exit.)
Insert or Capslock plus 1 or 2 controls the volume.
Insert or CapsLock plus 3 and 4 controls pitch.
Insert or Capslock plus 5 and 6 controls rate.

	You can echo a value to settings located in either:
/sys/module/speakup/parameters

...or:

/proc/speakup

For example:

echo "5" > /sys/module/speakup/parameters/vol

...will set the volume to 5 from a script you can place in /etc/rc.boot,
or whatever your system uses for personal system startup commands, like
/etc/rc.local in Debian.  HTH,

No, there is also the speakup user's guide available under
doc/spkguide.txt in the speakup directory, provided you do a git-clone
first. I do stand corrected though, I should have taken a look at
the user's guide on the site, though I still think it was reasonable
to assume that the user's guide from git, and the one on the site
would be the same. While spkguide.txt on
linux-speakup.org, and spkguide.txt in the doc directory of the
speakup tree both have the same last modified date, the spkguide.txt
in the speakup tree is updated to reflect the changes made in speakup
from git. Michael already gave you what you need to know, so I'm not
going to paste the info from the updated spkguide.txt here.

Tyler has been on this list long enough, that he should have seen
linux-speakup.org being mentioned here more than once. Even if someone
doesn't know where to start looking for the user's guide,
linux-speakup.org is a good place to start, and at least the
slightly out-dated copy would have been discovered as the 4th link on
that page. In the case of a newby, there is a chance that they would
have heard of linux-speakup.org, though if someone posting here for
the first time had asked what Tyler had asked, I would have given a
quick overview, like you had done, in addition to telling them where
to find the user's guide.

So, I think that in Tyler's case, as someone who has been here for a
while, the information you termed as being unhelpful, was a valid
starting point.

Hi,

There might be a bug with software speech, I don't know because I don't 
use it.  The messages you're getting with strange numbers and your 
uptime are from zsh.  Switch to bash and that will go away.  I couldn't 
stand zsh doing that either.  It only creates unnecessary confusion for 
speech users unless you really need/want that information.  What you're 
seeing isn't actually your uptime, it's how long it took a particular 
command to run and the drain on your processor etc.

I'm sure it doesn't deal with the new speakup.synth or /sys/module 
syntax.  I don't think it mentions git either.  I'm thinking about 
redoing the guide as more of a getting started document.  I really don't 
know why Samuel ships it as a Debian package because it's mostly useless 
from what I'm remembering when I read it.  I suppose some docs are 
better than none but I wouldn't recommend it.

Make sure that you base your work on the git version.
