Does anyone know how to recover a file with a name like this?
celtic-bagpipes.7z
The file utility says it is in the "7-zip" format, and tar knows how to
create such formats, but I can't figure out how to untar it or recover
it otherwise.

Yes, there's a gnu/linux port as well. I wasn't aware that tar could
deal with 7zip files though.

Hi Josh,
Someone sent me a link to a Linux port of that program, so it looks
like I am all set. I still have to compile it and install it though.

Chuck, I seem to recall you're running debian. If that's correct, then
simply apt-get install p7zip, or p7zip-full. Hth.

Thanks, Greg.
There's a downside to ignoring windows as I do. This format took me by
surprise.

you need 7-zip...I'm not sure how you'd do that in linux, last time I
checked there was only a 7-zip for windows (that was a really long
time ago though)

You want to find a package called p7zip. It's a port of 7zip to Linux.
It's kept pretty much right on pace with the windows based version.
