selecting text in emacs

Hi,

Does anyone know how I can select text in emacs? So I can delete it copy 
it cut it etc? Thanks for any help.

You move to where you want to start selecting from, and use
ctrl+space. Then, you move to the other end of the block of text, and
use ctrl+w to cut it, meta+w to copy it, and ctrl+y to paste, or
"yank" it. Before you can yank, you have to copy or cut text first of course.

If you're going to use emacs, you should be aware that it has a steep
learning curve. Also, I'd highly recommend going through the emacs
tutorial. You should see a line I believe at the top, or maybe it's at
the bottom of your screen,
telling you how to invoke it. Hth.

Probably so, but Jason's advice is very good advice.

Unlike much proprietary software, Linux documentation is quite open and
accessible in the main. It is your responsibility to use it.
