Hello,
I want to capture an asx audio stream and convert it to mp3.
I can listsen to the strema with mplayer -playlist http://file.asx
Does mplayer have a way to capture the audio data and pipe it into lame
to create the mp3 file.
Thanks for any suggestions.

rofl. not windblows's stuff.
I'd suggest that you just record it, if you've got a separate soundcard. Or.
you can use a lib like fmod, and make a stream, and put everything back
into another stream for MP3. I know it allows you to record. So I'm assuming
you can use .mp3. or .ogg, which would probably be preferable.
Thanks,
Tyler Littlefield.

Chris,
Look into a package called "streamripper".

Hi all. Another way to do this might be something like mplayer -playlist <file.asx> -dumpstream -dumpfile /dev/stdout | lame <options> - output.mp3. The above command may vary, depending on
your circumstances. Hth.

o.o I'm sorry. I took mplayer to mean windows, and thought this was coming
from the windows list... :(
My appologies, sorta misleading. The fmod thing still might do it, but a
package was already pointed out. :)
Thanks,
Tyler Littlefield.

I posted a script for this purpose a while ago in the following post:

I have an sblive card and am using the alsa drivers. I can use
amixer to set Wave cap, then again to set capture volume, then
run arecord to create a wav file, and that will capture any audio
stream playing in another console. It works with realaudio and
ogg/vorbis streams.
The developer of 'vsound' no longer supports or provides that
utility, but with the steps described above you no longer need
it.
Of course all this is just theoretical, since if you do what I
describe, you and I are both in deep doodoo with the copyright
cops.
