Speakup and Orca both seem to read the keys in Lynx even when I am
trying to set options which is a bit off putting and confusing because
when I down arrow with the cursor keys I keep getting all that stuff
about Q for quit, O for Options etc which is why I am having problems
reading pages.
How do I stop this?
It seems like Lynx is trying to go into help pages or the keystrokes
keep appearing when I am trying to read pages or alter settings.
What I have tried to do when running Lynx is to type lynx followed by
my URL, press o for options and try to cursor down to the options I
want to change and that is where it tries to read keys so it is like
my option is being blocked by the information it keeps reading.
Do I have to use the Speakup keys or even Orca keys to navigate the options?

You'll want to tell lynx to show the cursor on the command-line. You
do this through --showcursor, or --show-cursor, I don't remember the
correct syntax. So, you'd do something like:
lynx --show-cursor www.blabla.com

Hit "o" to go to the options, go down to the check box that says "save
options to disk" and check it. Next, go down once and change "user mode"
to advanced. Next, go to "keypad mode" and set it to "links are
numbered." Then, work your way down to "show cursor" and turn that on as
well. Lastly, go all the way to the top and hit enter on "accept
changes." This will make life a lot easier. I can't recall if you have
to exit lynx or not to have the changes take effect.

I'm fairly sure that you don't, they take effect as soon as they're
saved.

I lost a message somewhere, so may be slightly off base here. But yes, if
you change the show-cursor option and save your options, they *do* take
effect once they're saved/accepted.

lynx -show_cursor [url]
Make this permanent in options. Remember to apply then save your changes
in options.
PS: I also like "links and form fields are numbered."

Janina,
Where can the cfg2html script be found so that I can get lynx to read my
changes? I did a whereis and didn't find anything.

I'm afraid I don't know what cfg2html is.
Please note that you can now persist global customizations for lynx via
/etc/lynx-site.cfg. That mechanism has been there for quite some time
now, and I have always relied on it.
