hi all
my isp is once again going to be stupid,
they have now made it where for the email spam filtering
setup i have to only use one of the browsers they choose
firefox netscape and explorer,
otherwise it tells me that my browser is not supported.
is there a version of firefox that does not
have to have xwindows?
i am sure thinking about changing isps at this point
thanks in advance
randy

Why should your ISP care what you use to read your mail? Don't you use a
POP style mail client? as a Linux user, I use Fetchmail to POP all my
mail off the server at my hosting provider, ultrahost.us, Now most
people wouldn't use an arrangement like this but at the least, the ISP
makes available a mail box which you should be able to retrieve it with
a POP client of your choice. Are they screening your browser type for
all HTTP traffic and other web related services?

Write me privatelyif you want to switch ISP's and I might be able to
sell you a new service. I resell internet services among other
telecommunication services.

Hi.

No, All the Mozilla based browsers I know of are GUI.
I would start complaining to your ISP about preventing you from using
services you have paid for.

If that doesn't work, change ISPs.

I had to change ISPs last week because my former ISP decided to block
incoming port 25. The wanted me to pay an extra $20 to get it unblocked
again. It turns out they did me a favor. I found a new ISP with much
better service and a much better attitude toward there customers. My
new ISP only provides service in Alabama, so it won't help you, but you
can probably find something similar in your area.

Hope this helps.
          Kenny

hi steve,
this has to do with the email filtering,
i can read my email fine
on the web on there site
you can choose what email you want filtered out
of your email address box
when i go to there email part on the web
on there site i get blocked out.
i am sure thinking about trying another isp
but how do i know that it won't be the
same way with another isp?
thanks in advance

you could just change the version string linkx or lynx etl reports to the
correct one...
If you need some samples of version strings, I have included some below...
Note, these are just grep'd from a web servers log, so They are just for
information...
The code that limits browsers just reads these strings, so you should be
able to tell it you are a explorer or netscape...

"Lynx/2.8.5dev.7 libwww-FM/2.14 SSL-MM/1.4.1 OpenSSL/0.9.7a"

"Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 5.01; Windows NT)"

"Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; AOL 8.0; Windows NT 5.1)"

I suppose I could go look this up, but since we're already on the
topic, on a similar note, what do you
change in your apache config to make the browser used show up in the
log file?

Use the mascorade option with lynx first and see if that works. Then see if
there is an option in links2 or elinks that will make the system think you have
one of their approved browsers.

If you do decide to start looking for a new ISP (for whatever reason),
I recommend tracking down ISPs who service your area, and then looking
up their web sites to see what they actually (and currently) provide
for services. The ISP I use has local numbers scattered all over
California, USA, and provides broadband wireless, DSL, and dial up
services, with special services available within each of these access
types. The dial up phone number list for the ISP I use can be found
at

http://www.sunset.net/support/system/dialup_numbers.shtml

I'm not sure where you are, but I am sure other ISPs may provide
similar levels of service in other parts of the world. HTH, and have
a _great_ day!
