How well does it work so far? Does it work better then gnopernicus?
Where can one goto get it? Thanks.

I can't get it to run on my current Debian system, but I tried it last
year when I ran Gentoo. I suspect my problem in Debian is something
Debian changed in bonobo, but haven't spent much time trying to debug
and fix.
Because of the nature of Gnome accessibility, it did a good job.
It doesn't have any review functions, and at that
time, it did a better job of reading a gnome terminal. Gnopernicus has
sinced improved it's access to Gnome terminals.
The only way I know to get it is from CVS. I noticed that not all of it
gets downloaded some times, so make sure you get the C code as well as
the Python code if you try it.
export CVSROOT=':pserver:anonymous@anoncvs.gnome.org:/cvs/gnome'
cvs login
cvs co orca
cvs logout
I know this could probably be done with fewer commands, but I'm lazy and
just pasted my getorca script from last year.
If nothing else, orca convinced me the biggest problem with Gnome
accessibility is probably Gnopernicus and not actual Gnome
accessibility.
Hope this helps.
Kenny

2 lines can do it:
cvs -d:pserver:anonymous@anoncvs.gnome.org:/cvs/gnome login
cvs -d:pserver:anonymous@anoncvs.gnome.org:/cvs/gnome -z3 co orca
That is what I generally do.

Better? Try "differently."
It's a proof of concept. The proof was sufficiently strong that further
development can be expected. But, it's by no means ready for prime time
use.
You need to understand something about open source. Development happens
in the open, you get to hear about it, get to play with it, etc., etc.,
long before it's really very useful.
In this open source is radically different from the proprietary software
world you may have been accustomed to where you couldn't get your hands
on any application until it was fairly well cooked.

Are you currently successfuly using Orca? I belive you run a Debian
based distro, and I would like to know if my problem can be easily fixed
by just upgrading a Debian package.
Thanks in advance.

When I tried running orca a few weeks ago, I had no success. What exactly
is the error you get? If it is the same as what I get, then I am not
really sure. I can't exactly remember the error I got, but once I see
it, I will remember.

kenny@spot:~$ orca-setup
Creating .orca directory.
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "/usr/bin/orca-setup", line 49, in ?
import speech
File "/usr/lib/python2.3/site-packages/orca/speech.py", line 20,

from core import ORBit, bonobo

Gnopernicus 0.10.5 is working on the same system.
Thanks in advance.

Exactly the same error I was getting. I remember slightly altering the
line that causes this problem, and made it two lines, one for each. It
is the ORBit call that causes it to crash.
Currently have no ideas at present, but am going to try again on Ubuntu
Hoary and Debian unstable in the next few days.
