Hi guys. I seem to have X loading properly on my machine and I have gnopernicus installed.
After I start gdm and login with my user account what do I do to launch gnopernicus?
Basically how do I get to the run prompt like there is in wmicrosoft windows?

Tom

alt-f2 will take you to the run window. Then just type gnopernicus and press
enter. A window will pop up, and unfortunately Gnopernicus won't read it, but
if you press enter, you should be up and running.

To get it to start every time, just go into the assistive technology settings and
check "screen reader".

Hi. Alt-f2 opens the run dialog. Alt-f1 opens the Gnome equivalent of
the "start menu". Alt-f4 closes the current window. Alt-tab allows you
to switch windows.

Don't forget the first time you start Gnopernicus you will probably not
have Gnome's accessibility enabled yet. You will get a dialog telling
you this and the option to enable acessibility and log out so the new
settings will tak effect.

Also, be aware that choosing the "enable screen reader" option in
desktop preferences accessibility assistive technology will trash a
hardware synth connect to the serial port. This bug should be fixed in
a future release.

Hope this helps.

Hi Kenny.
When I run the start script for gdm my machine loadeds for a little while nad then beeps.
Is this normal? After the beep I figure I am to login so I enter my username and password and then the hd spins somemore.
After it stops I hit alt f2 and try to load gnopernicus and the hd spins more but I don't get any speech at all.
I have the user added to the audio group so sound should work.
Is there something else I'm issing?

Tom

I assume you've got festival installed, and that you ran test-speech
(which I don't recall debian having) before starting gnome? The
test-speech program is part of the speechtools package, which I can't
recall if debian has or not.

Hi. Debian doesn't include test-speech in it's gnome-speech packages.

If you have speech in the console, I suggest going ot the console, and
running festival --tts. This will gie you blank lines in which you can
type words, and Festival should speak them back to you. If you hear
something, then there is something else wrong somewhere.

If it is what I am thinking it is, then you will have to edit a festival
file to fix it.

Try adding this line to your /etc/festival.scm file

(defvar server_access_list '(localhost.localdomain)

Then try running Gnopernicus with Festival again.

Hope this helps.
