Is it possible to boot the Speakup modified Debian Sarge installer with softsynth
support? I tried to boot using
speakup speakup_synth=softsynth
but the kernel hangs right after it is uncompressed and gives no error message.
It says it is booting the kernel, but nothing ever happens.
Thanks,
Lorenzo

To: Speakup is a screen review system for Linux.
No, You need a hardware synth.
Because software speech in speakup requires speech-dispatcher and
speechd-up, you need an installed system to use it. Speech-dispatcher
is a Debian package, but you will need to build speechd-up from CVS
source.

Thanks. I was hoping just maybe it would work, as my laptop has no serial port,
and I want to use Debian with Speakup. Oh well, back to the drawingboard I
guess.

Softsynth is something which needs to be included as a module. See your kernel
config which you should find under the /bood directory and grep for
speakup_sftsyn module. See if this is in fact a module or a statically linked
thing. M infront of it means module.
