Hi all,

thank you for the answers on the putty question which was actually a windows question, but I mnew that some of you have delt with it, so ... it worked.
Now I got deck talk express with a serial cable, and need to make a partition for Linux on my HD. What file system to use? fat32 or ntfs?
How large should the partition be (ment only for the OS, no other data)?
When I do partitioning, what's the next step I need to take?

Many thanks!
Ned

Hi. Linux can use several possible file systems. Now days, the default
is usually ext3. You should probably just leave the space you plan to
use for Linux as free space and let your Linux installer create the
partition and file system.

Hope this helps.

Well, I am about to install XP Pro and it offers fat32 and ntfs options. I
wouldnt go with Linux first since I know nothing about it and know nobody
around who is into it.
This whole thing about Linux and speakup is unclear to me --
first install Linux and then compile speakup with its compiler?

Many thanks.
Ned

I am using both XP pro & Debian on 2 different computers.
But I have found that I am quite glad that I installed XP on FAT32 instead
of NTFS, as I can boot to a win98 floppy, and still do DOS stuff.
You could not do this with XP on NTFS, or at least not very easily, and then
only in a limited fashion.
