When you press insert+F1, or one of the other keys that Speakup binds to itself, then Speakup will load the module if needed, and go into essentially a training mode. Think of it as the keyboard help mode in JFW, or the learn mode of the BNS and similar products. In other words, for each Speakup command you press, you will be told what it does, and that's it. To get out of this mode, press space. It also lets you use the arrow keys to scroll through all possible commands. ^ permalink raw reply [flat|nested] 8+ messages in thread

In fact, I did so on a 640, and a 2000, and I still don't see mention of such a thing. Perhaps something like this may be available on a bns scholar, which I never worked with, but it certainly isn't there on a 640 or a 2000. It might also be available on a bns classic, but given how limited those units were in their functionality, I seriously doubt it. Greg On Mon, Jan 24, 2005 at 10:01:44AM -0600, W. I think the learn mode is something screen reader specific that is what is closest to speakup's key help. bns has a help feature the th-sign chord, what may be what the origonal poster confused learn mode for. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Gregory Nowak" <greg@romuald.net.eu.org> To: "W. * Re: speakupp module question ` Sean McMahon @ ` Adam Myrow ` Gregory Nowak 0 siblings, 1 reply; 8+ messages in thread From: Adam Myrow @ UTC (permalink / raw) To: Sean McMahon, Speakup is a screen review system for Linux. On the Type 'N Speak, the keystroke was shift+break. The break key acted as the help key when pressed by itself, and with shift, would put the unit in a mode where all the keys would do nothing except tell you what they did. My TNS hasn't worked for years, but I seem to remember it saying "learn mode," when this was turned on. Maybe, it was only on the TNS. I just assumed all the BNS line had basically the same features. ^ permalink raw reply [flat|nested] 8+ messages in thread

Perhaps something like that was needed on a tns due to the qwerty keyboard? Greg On Mon, Jan 24, 2005 at 07:12:50PM -0600, Adam Myrow wrote: > On the Type 'N Speak, the keystroke was shift+break.
