Has anybody successfully installed realplayer and trplayer on gentoo? If
so, which packages did you use?
Thanks.

Hi Cheryl. What issues are you having under Gentoo? You weren't very
specific in your m,essage, so its impossible for me to know exactly what
you're talking about.

Hi. This doesn't really answer your question, but I didn't bother
trying to install trplayer in Gentoo. Since it isn't beeing maintained
any more and mplayer gives me access to more formats, I just used mplayer.
Hope this helps.

I still use trplayer, because for some reason, my version of mplayer
crashes on the majority of Real Audio files. Anybody else have problems
with this?

Adam,
Me too. I have tried to kick the trplayer habit, but while mplayer works
for me on some realmedia links, there are a sufficient number where it
fails to make it impossible to put trplayer out to pasture. I am using
1.0pre5 with all the codecs up to date on a Slackware 10.0 system here.

Speaking of mplayer, I have a couple questions. I can't seem to play
Real Media streams at all. Do I need some extra codeks? I got a bunch
some while back that gives me access to just about everything else.
The other is I would like to see a cleaner display where merely the
tag info from playing files shows rather than all the other stuff that
mplayer typically spiews such as elapsing time, buffering, etc.
Anyone know how to do that?

Hi Steve,
I have found that mplayer handles streams okay with the .ra extension,
but not .rm, but have no idea why. The only way I have been able to
suppress the console output is to invoke mplayer from within a script
where I can redirect stdout to /dev/null, which is not very
satisfactory.
It does seem to handle all sorts of realmedia files okay, but only .ra
streams, on my system.
