I know this is meant more for Janina specifically, but fyi, a provider
carying the cellphone is the biggest hertal I've found so far. You have
to get the accessable cellphone through your provider, unless you want to
buy it unlocked and find out later it won't work for you. Atnt for
example, only carried 1 of the phones for mobile accessibility according
to the sails person and that phone wasn't on the mobile accessibility
website. </rant>

In GSM phones this isn't strictly true. For example, you can buy a SIM
card without buying a phone, and you can then place that SIM in a GSM
phone. Of course, there are ways to block this that some carriers use
such as locking a particular telephone device to a particular chip.
However, it is quite common to simply put a SIM card in any phone. Of
course, this practice is better known where GSM is more commonly used,
such as in Europe.
Having said this, it is certainly our hope and expectation to offer the
Owasys 22C through service providers both in the U.S. and in Canada. In
Europe the 22C is already available in Spain, and will be made available
through various providers elsewhere in Europe soon.

Don't forget that many phones are fairly easy to unlock if you happen
to buy one that's locked to a particular carrier. Course, I sorta
think it's too bad that Owasys didn't just go all out and make it a
worldwide phone with all the cell bands (or at least three of them) on
it...Ah well, can't have everything :)

I don't believe the ordinary user can unlock such a device. So, you need
to know about this in advance and not get into the situation.

Hi their. Will the Talx package cost the customer anything if they get
it from Singular Wireless? B/c I believe that their are FCC laws in place
to prevent this.

Hey, how about the ability to run (for instance) lynx the cat? :) (Oh well, it was a thought--I guess this phone doesn't have a CF slot...)

Glad to hear of the improvements. I just found out that Cingular
doesn't offer service in my home area so they are off my books for now
so I hope T Mobile will pick up this modle as they do offer service in
my area and run GSM. Yes, I recall the linux platform, another big plus!

I was at Owasys last week and saw the latest software revisions. The
latency issue reported in Access World has been resolved, and the speech
has been improved--even though it's the same speech engine.
And, it's worth noting that the 22C is a Linux phone, so you should
expect to be able to hack at the software if you like.

What is the deal with this phone?
Is it accessible?

That's certainly good news indeed. I found the review in Access World
comparing cell phones for July to be interesting. It sounds like some
minor tweaks might improve the software might be in order but other
than that... I wonder which cell phone providers would be willing to
carry it when avaiable .
I heard from a broadcast of ACB convention that Cingular is going to
offer a Nokia / Talks package as early as this August - sounds
exciting too.

Hi List,
Sorry for a repeat if this has been discussed in the past few
months, but I have been off the list for a bit.
I was wondering if anyone had heard when or if Owasys was
planning to offer the 22C Cell Phone for sale in the U.S.
