Computers don't make any sense

Figure this one out:

If I'm running setiathome, my audio sounds fine! If I'm not, it's all
crappy and distorted as i mentioned before! 

So the solution seems to be "Run setiathome", but that doesn't make
any damned sense!

Hmm, if I were into aliens and/or conspiracy theories, I could really go 
somewhere with that!!! Might make the take-off point for a really great 
thriller!!! If I ever write such a thing, I'll be sure you get some of the

astronomical telescope to help look for exterestrial intelligence.  If
it is osmething you think you'd be interested in you could sign up and
run a daemon on your computer and you could collect the point/time for

find one on their site.

Download the Linux version from the setiathome web site, then untar and 
install. They don't have rpm's or anything like that. As far as I know, they 
can't because of the licenseing.

Thanks for the info...unfortunately I don't run Debian, but I guess I can
have another crack at the tarball, I just remember it not working last
time...but yes yes, I know this is of course something I'm doing wrong and
not any fault of the tarball.

They've also got one working on the human genome project, and on cancer. 
I don't have the latter organization's name off the top of my head, but 
think the former is "folding at home".  (This is if you want to use your 
extra cycles, for something to help the human race in the near future, 
instead of searching for an entity as devanced as us (who would still be 
using lightspeed EM for communications).)

Interesting. I signed up and have been participating most of the
day now, but I sure can't find any information about how to rack
up frequent flyer miles or credits or whatever. Any clues where
to look for info on that?

And if we find intelligent life in outer space, do we then start
a search for it right here on Planet Earth?Might need a Cray
network for that one.

First of all, if you look at your stats on the web page, you will see how 
many work units you have completed. It takes a while for this to  update 
though, so it may be a day or so before you see them. To join a team, select

Ok, I wondered about updating the stats; I still have zeros and was 
concerned and emailed Kirk.
also, after you hit the teams link you can just search for speakup and go 
right to it and join. if you don't have a password, just follow the 
instructions and it will be emailed to you; then you can finish joining 
the group.
