Hi all,
I just installed Debian today, but have a problem when I start the system. I can get to the log in prompt fine, and speakup does
beep at me when I hit the 4 and 6 keys on the keypad, so I know that's installed, however, I can't get speech output to my double
talk L T. I am using Debian version 2.2.17 potato, and Lilo is in the mbr of the hard disk. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hi. Did you add the line for your synth to the options in lilo.conf?
The option during the install is something like add kernel boot parameters.
Speakup should have already been talking before you got to the login
prompt.
Hope this helps.

Wrong. If the 4 and 6 keys cause a beep, that is evidence that
speakup is NOT installed. Without speakup those are left and
right arrow movements which cause the beep you described. If
speakup were installed those keys would cause movement on the
screen to the previous or next word.

Yuck. that version of debian is very old. you should install woody
which is a little bit newer.
