Okay, the program i was thinking of was diff, but I haven't got "diff" working right because when i put in the two files I just got the command line prompt and no info.
But I found it anyway!!!
You have to be sure to say "y" to "INPUT_MISC" or you'll never see 'INPUT_PCSPKR". SAY Y IF YOU WANT THOSE CONSOLE BEEPS!

Hi guys.
Got the pc speaker working again, one more problem though.
I use the setterm program to set the frequency and length of the default beep and when I do this when the system beeps it doesn't stop and I have to reboot to shut the beep off.
Anyone sen this one?

Tommy

When you get nothing, do:

echo $?

If it gives you a zero, it means there were no differences.

No, and thanks; I didn't know you could do that with setterm or that there was a setterm, though it's part of my util-linux package.
Would you mind sharing with me how you set this up to control the beeps?
Thanks.

Cheryl

If it says nothing when you give it the two filenames, they are
identical.

Hi, changing the beep frequency and length is pretty simple.
The syntax is:
setterm -bfreq <freq_in_hertz> -belngth <length_in_ms>
