apt-get update then apt-get dist-upgrade depending entries in
/etc/apt/sources.list are valid.

Hi All.
Is there a way to upgrade all packages in debian to their latest
versions? with out having to upgrade each individual package by hand.

If your sources.list is set up correctly then type the following as root.

apt-get update
apt-get upgrade

         Kenny

apt-get -q upgrade

Suggest you start a script first.

I sit corrected

apt-get -q update
apt-get -q upgrade

You may want dist-upgrade; check out the apt-get docs (man or info; info
should be better).

You are probably up to date with the stable distribution; you may want to
check out the unstable or testing distributions to get updated packages.

This looks like the issue based on your sources.list file.

You should be able to do

apt-get update && apt-get dist-upgrade.

This will upgrade everything and even install any new packages in the
distribution that are appropriate to your system.

Hi

It would be useful if you stated the responces your machine offered when
you issued the commands several people proffered.

Especially those from the first command 'apt-get update'. It probably
down to e-mail clients etc but your sources file that you posted,
appeared to me, crumpled. If your sources.list file isn't as it should
be. You could always mv it to another directory or filename and run
apt-get update. Apt will complain and provide a default one.

Apt is good at letting the user know what it does not like, what it does
like, whether it succeeds or fails.
