Hi guys,
Does anyone know what it is you're supposed to do to get trn to do authenticated news reading?
I'm running trn 4.0b76, and while strings of the binary shows authinfo commands being compiled in,
I can't for the life of me figure out how you're supposed to tell it you want it to try to log on.
I'm trying to connect to a protected news reader and just get a 5xx go away error because I'm not supplying my credentials.
No, the correct answer is not use slrn, I have specific reasons for wanting trn.
Any help much appreciated lest I have to go read the source *shudder*.
Regards
Aaron

Put a file something like this in .trn/access (in your home dir)...at
least...this works for me. Dunno how to do it globally:
[newsserver]
NNTP Server = news.verizon.net
Auth User = res1g2qc
Auth Password = didyouthinkidleaveitin
Force Auth = yes
# This section tells trn what newsrc groups you want to use. If you
# define multiple entries with the same group number, all of the .newsrcs
# are combined and used together. The first entry encountered will be
# the first group that trn will open. Otherwise the numbers dictate the
# presentation order (see Ctrl-N and Ctrl-P). You can have multiple
# .newsrc's from the same server or different servers, however you like.
# The ID name "default" always exists with your compiled-in defaults.
# If you leave off the newsrc name, the default is supplied. If you
# don't want any groups added to an rc, specify "no" in the "Add Groups"
# field. If you don't want new-group checking but want to manually
# add groups, specify "manual". The default is "yes".
#[Group 1]
#ID = local
#Newsrc = ~/.newsrc
#Add Groups = YES
[Group 1]
ID = newsserver
Newsrc = ~/.newsrc
Add Groups = YES
--------End--------
Add aditional entries as appropriate.

This might be of interest to some of you audiofiles on the list.
join Kelly John Sapergia now live at audio-tips
If you're interested in composing and producing your own MIDI (Musical
Instrument Digital Interface) files, then join me in the Karaoke Room at
19:00 GMT (I believe that would be Sunday, 2:00 PM Eastern Time, 1:00 PM
Central) for a live demonstration of Sonar. This product is a virtual
recording studio. With it you can not only create great MIDI compositions,
but you can also add digital audio (like vocals or other instruments), and
even audio loops. Unfortunately, I won't be able to demonstrate the audio
capabilities of Sonar during this demonstration, but I'll show you how to
create and edit a simple MIDI composition, demonstrate how to use
soundfonts in your music, and will let you hear some examples of some of
the work I've created with this incredible sequencer. You'll also be able
to ask me any questions about the product. If possible, could someone
please record this presentation into an MP3 file in case anyone misses it?
Thanks.
Yours Sincerely,
Kelly John Sapergia
