try:
amixer set whatever nocapture
it's confusing. nocapture, unmute ...
then again, if you want the answer to anything and are willing to read alot:
get 1 or more c reference manuals.
(or whatever language it is coded in).
and read the source code. ;) i haven't done that much, since mostly man pages help.

Nope, that won't do it either. Either it's linked to another setting that must
also be changed or it has something to do with this "Capture exclusive group: 0
line in the settings.
Thanks for trying though.
What is so frustrating is that this morning i was close to having the mike upand
running; now i either just get noise or I get my voice with background static
and/or feedback no matter what I do. It really _is_ like the lost chord!

Hi all,

The man pages for alsa are less than enlightening.  What kind of sound
card do you have, Cheryl?  If it's a sf-live, I'll send you my
asound.stat file.

Chuck or Kirk (can't remember I think Kirk) sent me theirs and i even
substituted it and it didn't work, but if you'd send yours i'll try it; would
appreciate it. I'm getting a bit desperate.

Hi Cheryl,

It won't work properly unless you have the same sound card.  Do you
have an sb-live?

Hi Ann; I assumed you would know I had an sblive when I asked for the
asound.stat. But it's allways good to check before you send somebody something.

Hi Cheryl,

I'd send you my configs, but I'm using a SBLive Value, and I don't have
some of the groups you guys have been talking about, so it might do more
harm than good.  However, if you still haven't got it working, and if
people don't think it'll hurt to use it, then email me privately and I'll
send 'em rigbht along.
