Hi y'all,
Well, I tried to join the reflector, but when I hit spacebar, I
couldn't unkey the microphone, couldn't do anything really but kill
the thing. Haven't been on in years, but it's bwoken! On my end,
anyway. Anyone else having issues? Using kernel 2.6.5 here...What'd I break?!

Well, this is probably no help, but speakfreely has NEVER liked me. Even
when I had my sblive working with alsa, my microphone never quite worked
right. but it was fun listening and I could text chat, so maybe someday
I'll get around to trying it again. A fun bunch of people on that
reflector!!!

For when I screw up my courage to try alsa again, does enabling it in the
2.6 kernel make any difference in how you actually install it compared to
when it wasn't a kernel option? And what is the best version of utils,
libs and drivers to use?
Thanks.

I would not use the ALSA that comes with the 2.6 kernels because it
has issues. Just build it the same as you would for 2.4 as modules. Get
the latest version of ALSA which is 1.04.

And, I didn't have any issues. Of course the ALSA that's part of the kernel won't necessarily be the latest ALSA drivers, but I would certainly build them.

I had a similar problem once...I think the cause was a half duplex
sound card.

So in the future, one 'client' at a time or you'll be spending CPU time with
lots of little 'child processes'.
