Anybody able to play swf files or streams from the text console? My
mplayer is the precompiled package from Debian unstable and cannot, and
vlc media seems unable to play them either. Who can do it, and what do
you use?
Thanks,
Chuck

Hi Chuck. I don't know of a console player; however, try playing with SWFtools (http://www.swftools.org). The only experience I have had with swfextract (part of Swftools) so far, is
extracting an audio stream out of a compressed SWF file; I was then able to reencode the resulting output to whatever format I wanted. Hth.

Hi Igor,
Thanks for the tip. I got the package and will compile and play with
it.

Well, you are looking for positive experiences but I have still never
managed to play or successfully take apart swf or flash of any sort.
It seems there must be a solution though.

We have a local group who want to license a low power FM community
radio station, and at present they are webcasting with the macromedia
flash swf format. I sure would like to find a solution to this one, but
I'm stymied too. Igor's tip about swfextract didn't untangle one sample
file I have here, but perhaps something will turn up. There are plugins
of course for mozilla and xstreamer, but I'm not going there.

A search of the Debian archives shows a flash player plugin for
konqueror and for mozilla, neither of which are console apps. Did you
have something else in mind? I'd be most interested.
