Hi, I'm trying to install software speech and noticed that one of the requirements for speech dispatcher is "pthreads".
What is this exactly?
I'm unable to verify whether my system has it.

Also, does gnome come with a software synth by default? If so, which?

To: Speakup is a screen review system for Linux.

pthreads is the Posix Threading library. It's a good bet you have it
already, since I think it's included with the GNU C library. Just try to
configure and install the package; the script will tell you if
something crucial to the successful compilation of the program is
missing.
