Hello.  I would like to thank Kirk, Andy, and anyone else who has worked
on Speakup over the last two years.  I was able to get and install Speakup
1.00 and have finally compiled my own kernel successfully.  So, I am now
running kernel 2.4.12 and liking it.  I really like the new cut and paste.
Thanks for fixing the pitch problem with the DECTalk Express.  If anyone
out there really cares about Linux, you owe it to yourself to figure out
how to compile your own kernel with the latest stable Speakup release.  It
is really not too bad and there is lots of help for configuring.  My
system now boots much faster.

On another note, recently my Windows setup decided to weird out and tried
to restore everything to the defaults.  Needless to say, it would not boot
right and kept locking up.  (What is new?)  Anyway, it is a little sad and
unfortunate when you have to use a free, noncommercial OS to go around
Microsoft and fix the mess they created.  In other words, Linux saved my
butt and I would not have been able to fix Windows otherwise.  No, I am
not ready to completely move everything to Linux yet, and there are just
too many programs which have not been ported to console mode apps.

Hello.  Basically, Windows decided to backup my ini files and restore
factory defaults.  Mostly I fixed the problems within Windows (like the
registry) but not completely.  The main problem was that it kept running
out of memory because it was using incorrect settings and assuming I had a
lot less memory than I actually have.  Basically, I booted into Linux,
mounted my Win filesystem (this is done at boot time), looked at the ini
files, renamed them just in case, moved its backups to the correct
filenames and rebooted.  This did not totally fix the problem but it
helped.  Speakup in itself did not play a part except that I had speech
feedback so I knew what the heck I was doing when I was renaming files.

Hi,
I just got my network server up and running on redhat 7.1 with 
speak up.  i am trying to get it to let my windows boxes to see 
acouple of drives.  I tried doing some changes to smb.conf, but no 
luck.  could any help?  thank you Kurt for the best speech package 
on the planet.

If someone could write me off line about the batchfile method of
refreshing winblows 95B I'd appereciate it.  It appears that  I  have
corruption  to beat corruption on one of my pc's but I don't want to blow
away  everything on the hd.  I can at least run command soas to get down
into  dos but can't access anything on the desktop or the Programs folder.
If there's no way then thanks! will just have to do it with a working pair
of eyes who isn't very computer literate.
