help finding a folder

[K0LNY_Glenn]

Hi,
I did a git download of some files for rh-voice on an armbian image.
I'm to the point to do the make stuff, and the instructions say to go into
the rhvoice directory, but I cannot find it.
Why can't simply find, or ls find anything that is in the immediate folder?!
Any help finding rhvoice, or rh anything is appreciated.

Sure Glen, depending on which shell you are in, first run
sudo updatedb
Then install or type "locate rhvoice" Since I am in TCSH, I must type rehash. 
Also, sometimes I've seen .tar files which extract to some generic directory 
which by name has no relation. Anyway, hope all of that helps.

Hi,
the updatedb didn't work, and it did not understand update db
if that was what you meant to write.
I then installed "locate"
and I ran it as you suggested, but it just came back to the command prompt, 
no errors and no messages.

Hi Glen, yes I mean update db as 1 word, but first, see if you have it 
installed by typing
updatedb --version

I see why the updatedb didn't work, I did that before installing locate.
It found a lot of rhvoice in /rclocal/android, or some such directory.
Why would github put it in an Android directory?

When I do git downloads I usually make a builds subdirectory in my home
directory then cd to that builds directory then do the git clone.  git
usually drops whatever I cloned into that builds subdirectory and so long
as nothing else is in that builds subdirectory the clone results are easy
to find.  One could do something like builds1 then builds2 and builds3 to
keep those builds subdirectories unique.

It was weird, I couldn't git clone it again because it said it already 
existed.
So I did the git  thing in the root, or the highest level and this time I 
listened to some of the paths, and there were /data/voices folders, so I 
searched for that when it was done, and I found them in a top level folder 
with a question mark for the name.
There never was an RHVoice folder made.
This git clone stuff and scons or make stuff is a real turn off.

guix is worse.  Once it's installed successfully it's impossible to clear
from the system and getting anything done with it, forget about it!

Glenn, it sounds like you accidentally added a question mark to the end 
of your git clone command. If so, you can fix this by typing the 
following in the directory where you ran that command:

mv '?' RHVoice

Note the single quotes around the question mark.

Yes, building from source is sometimes a hassle. Fortunately, RHVoice is 
already packaged in Debian testing, so Armbian will get it sooner or 
later. I suppose someone could backport the packages and set up their 
own APT repo if they wanted to.
