So how does one patch a 2.6.22 kernel with speakup? Is there an
equivalent of the checkout script we have been using with cvs that will
work with the new git repository?

Hi Chuck: apt-get install git-core and then:

git-clone http://linux-speakup.org/speakup.git

There is an installation guide and a read me and all the usual
suspects for source based packages. There is no checkout style script
which does everything including washing the dishes anymore. There's a
couple of scripts depending on whether you are building into the
kernel or as modules.

Does the checkout script still work? The reason I ask is that i have a
Makefile that makes it easier for me to download and compile a kernel. In
the past, all I had to do was change the kernel version mumber (2.6.21 to
2.6.22 for example) and it would download the kernel code tar ball,
uncompress it, create a symlink to it, and run the checkout script. I ran it
today, I expected it tto fail when it ran the checkout script. I've pasted
the output below. I don't hear anything that seems like an error message.

Hi.

Since the checkout script uses cvs and versions of speakup that patch into 2.6.22 use git, the answer is no.

John,

Not long ago I patched a 2.6.22 kernel successfully from the cvs
archive using the checkout script. Your patching seems to have been
successful, but the file you were unable to touch is one that does
exist on my system. Not sure what that means. Do you have a permissions
problem of some sort? Did you check out the various path elements on
the way to BUGS?

Chuck

Woops!

Excuse me, John and Kenny, I patched 2.6.21, not 2.6.22. Sorry.

Oh, sorry, that touch command was just to fool make. I probably should have
removed that line from my transcript.

I guess i could try compiling to see if it worked.

Hi, Why not do some cleaning up with the speakup files like removing cvs
support and removing the 2.2 2.4 and 2.5 versions as they no longer work and
just get current? How do you use gid to patch speakup into a new kernel and
is the dectalk express driver still broken in 2.6.22?
