Hi. I'm trying to mount my Iriver mp3 player under Fedora Core 3. When
I attach the player to the usb port I get:
SCSI device sda: 39063024 512-byte hdwr sectors (20000 MB)
sda: assuming drive cache: write through
SCSI device sda: 39063024 512-byte hdwr sectors (20000 MB)
sda: assuming drive cache: write through
Attached scsi disk sda at scsi0, channel 0, id 0, lun 0
So I made a directory /iriver and tried to mount it like this:
mount /dev/sda /iriver
I got the error:
mount: you must specify the filesystem type
So then I tried:
mount -t auto /dev/sda /iriver
FAT: invalid media value (0xb9)
mount: you must specify the filesystem type
Under Windows if I remember the drive was seen as a fat32 drive yet I'm
not able to mount it with the vfat type.
Any ideas/suggestions?

Thanks, that was it. I didn't think of adding a number after. How

I would like to take this mounting business one step further by having
the device auto mounted when it is attached. How does one go about
this? I looked a bit at auto mount and what comments I've seen so far,
it mainly referred to NFS type stuff. Am I barking up the wrong tree or
should I go up there anyway? If so, I need to get hold of a daemond of
some kine that's supposed to monitor things.
What I do right now for my Neuros, is create a little alias that mounts
the device and changes directory for me and then I have a similar script
that changes me out of the working mounted directory and umounts for me.
I have a similar deal for CDROMs which will even eject the disk for
me:).

Yeah, "my wife!". Ooops, don't wanna offend the ladies out there:).
That's one the things I find so beautiful about linux. You can make
scripts or write programs to make just about everything convenient or
much easier to do. My cd burning script is one such example; I don't
have to remember all those command line options to build the ISO images
and what parms I need to type carefully to record audio off my sterio.
Another script I really like is what I use to convert NLS tapes down to
individual tracks that play in the proper direction and at normal speed.

Is that calling the drive a SCSI drive?
It may be an IDE, as all of the other Archos units are IDE.

So I made a directory /iriver and tried to mount it like this:

Glenn. I cannot wait for the talking software to be completed. Will be
a nice addition to an already very accessible unit.

Also, the firmware is almost ready from the open-source group:
http://www.rockbox.org/
and as soon as the firmware is ready, very soon, it will talk, menus,
folders, & files, just like the other units mentioned at the above site.
Making it the only off-the-shelf MP3 players that are almost totally
accessible.

The articles were interesting indeed. I also went to
www.google.com/linux and did a search for podcasting and came up on a
bunch of stuff. I need to spend a lot more time in there to see what is
all there. I found an article that outlines what one needs to do for
both listening to and broadcasting podcast material. They recommend
ipodder; apparently there's a linux version that uses wxpython so is
probably X based but Lorenzo's message mentions another program that may
do the job. Glad to hear it can be easily done in linux. I just barely
got into RSS a bit and now podcasts -- this has got to be cutting edge
stuff here and yet is farely simple in concept.

To: Speakup is a screen review system for Linux.
Is the iriver a USB device?
If so, you'll need usb support compiled into the kernel.
The beauty of this is, that it will automatically see the device when
you connect it and disconnect it.
