Hello guys,

I am having a problem where my version 2.0 wrt54G router is not allowing me
to ssh or sftp to two of my boxes at 192.168.1.101 and 192.168.1.102. Can
anyone help me to figure out what the trouble is? The error message I get
is:
Network error: Connection timed out

Sounds like they're not connected, or not listening. Double check the ip
addresses at both ends. If iptables is running at either end, kill it to
see if that fixes things.
Are you able to ping?

Can you ping/ssh/ other machines on your 192.168.1.x network?

Hi Janina,

the pinging currently does here is what I got when I pinged 192.168.1.102:L

Pinging 192.168.1.102 with 32 bytes of data:

Hi Scott. If flushing all your Iptables rules allows you to successfully
SSH to your boxes, more than likely your traffic is being dropped
somewhere; you will have to read through your ruleset, to determine
exactly where traffic is dropping, and under what matches. Another thing
you can try on either end of the connection, is to run tcpdump to see if
traffic is being sent/received on their respective interfaces.
Unfortunately, I'm not familiar enough with OpenWRT (assuming that's
what you are using) firewall implementation to tell you exactly where to
look. Hth at least a bit though.

I think openwrt runs iptbales by default. Log onto your router and test
from there.
