Hi all.
I recently aquired a copy of vmware workstation 4.0.5. I would like to
use this for some distro experimentation because It's a lot easer then
repartitioning hard disks and screwing around with bootloaders.
I created a vertual machine using the operating system choice called
linux in the add machine wizzard. I then went into the configuration for
that vm and added the serial port to the list of hardware and left
everything at it's defaults of using physical com1 etc. I tried booting
both the debian sarge install cd and a copy of slackware 9.0 but I get
no speach output from speakup and my transport. I tried shutting down
and having my physical computer boot both cd's and they come up talking
but vmware doesn't seem to want to work. I'm using win2k pro on the host
system. has anyone had any experience with this software before?

Hi: I just connected Apollo to my linux box. This synth can work with 2
languages, English as primery and Polish as a secondary one.
My question is, how to switch from one to another? I tried something like:
echo lang 1 > /dev/synth
but it doesn't seem to work.
Thanks,
Pawel.

I think you need
Echo @a0 >/dev/synth
And
Echo @a1 >/dev/synth
Or maybe it's @a1 and @a2 - just try it.

Hi Alex and all.
1. I have successfully got vmware to work on a Windows xp system. I don't
remember adding serial ports, they were they by default . I didn't have any
problems using debian sarge with speakup built into the kernal.
The othe rquestion in regards to what sscreen readers that work on a VMWare
environment is all linux screen readers. VM stands for virtual machine.
Any os will work in this environment. So you could run windows XP in a VM
machine and the host computer could be linux or windows 2k. A host is the
original os that you booted up on.
Sorry that I could be any help with your problem. I would suggest that you
kill the vm file and start again.
Sean
