Some folks were good enough to share some info on list about VOIP, but
what I am really interested in knowing is what hardware if any folks
have used with Asterisk, is it wise to look at external hardware vs
cards in the box, or any other bits I should know. Please write off list
if you wish to save on list traffic.
I'm looking into this as it seems for what I'm paying for regular
service, I could do better with VOIP perhaps.

To: Speakup is a screen review system for Linux.
Go to http://www.voip-info.com and buy yourself a Snom 320. You'll never
look back.
It's a desk phone that you configure using your web browser. The phone
runs Linux, and several of us are currently hacking on it to make it
even more accessible than it already is.

I just tried this site and all I got was a line or two of German or some
such, no links or anything. The header was "Untitled Document." Is
this the correct address below? I tried this in elinks and lynx the cat
with similar results. Haven't tried a winblows client yet.

Oh dear, I'm very sorry. My poor adled brain mixed up to urls and ended
up giving you the wrong one:
The place to buy the Snom 320 is:
http://www.voip-supply.com
You can learn about the phone at Snom's web site at:
http://www.snom.com
Oh, and the address I got my message confused with is actually a great
resource for all things voip, even though it has far too many links in
its nav bar:
http://www.voip-info.org
All three of these are usable with lynx the cat. I bought my Snom 320
from Voip Supply using the cat.
What's so cool about it? Well how does talking caller ID on the phone's
speaker strike you? I have it working as of this morning. Very, very
cool.
Now, don't get me wrong. Snom isn't giving you talking caller ID. It's a
hack and it involves a bash script and some clever statements in
Asterisk. More on that later. Just think of this as breaking news.
What is cool about the Snom is that the web interface to configure the
phone is very accessible right out of the box.

Steve, try it without the -,
http://www.voipinfo.com
I am not sure how it will work with a text browser, I used Internet
Exploder to try it.
