Has FC6 been modified with Speakup support?
I'd love to get working with it soon.
Also, if any of you have any suggestions for the best software speech
combination i.e. synths that work with both speakup and Orca I'd really
appreciate hearing about them.
I don't particularly mind buying the synths either. I don't have a com port
on this machine any more so the apollo isn't an option.
Thanks

Well, FC6 isn't out yet, so how can you ask this?
The test releases which precede the release of FC6 are working with
speech, and speech assisted installation. So, we will have a return of
the Speakup Modified Fedora following sometime after the release of FC6
at long last. This will include a new version of the Installation HOWTO,
a revamped web address and a revamped web site, along with yum support.
But none of this happens before the FC6 release, and I make no time
commitments on how fast it all hapens following the release of FC6
itself, which is most recently announced by Red Hat for this coming
Tuesday, October 25.

Thanks for your informative answers as always.
Sorry, I read somewhere that it was due to be released on Thursday. I didn't
think to look again, I just saw a few messages on the FC devel list that
indicated that speakup was going to be part of this release so I was
curious.
It all sounds very interesting. Please don't hesitate to ask if there is
anything I can do. Coding isn't one of my strong points but documentation /
web development are two things I might be able to assist with.
Talk again soon

No problem. But, for future reference, I would ever only consider
announced
release dates as guidance only. They almost always slip, sometimes
several times. Releases just don't happen until they happen.

I don't know about FC6.
But I'm using espeak which works with speakup (via speech-dispatcher and
speechd-up), and orca.
I'm having a bit of a problem with it though; in that it's not pronouncing
things properly. Letters like g don't pronounce at all, either alone or
phinetically, and it pronounces my name (chris) as a hiss.
ANyone got any ideas on that? it's speak version 1.11a.
Cheers,
Chris Norman

That sort of problem is usually caused by having different versions of
the speak program, the dictionary files (eg. espeak-data/en_dict) and
the phoneme data ( espeak-data/phondata,phontab,phonindex).
Try installing the current version, 1.16 and make sure that both the
speak program and the espeak-data that it uses are both updated.
http://espeak.sourceforge.net/
Note that it looks first for an espeak-data directory in your home
directory first, and only if that's not found does it use the one in
/usr/share.
