Hello again. I finally got things working on my laptop, speakup included,
and am interested in spending what time I can learning how to use it. What
I'd like to know, though, is if there's still a relatively current users
guide for it. Linux-speakup.org doesn't appear to have one (or if it does,
it's not linked to). So far though, aside from the voice, I rather like it
thus far.

The most recent version of the guide was just posted. Look at
http://linux-speakup.org/spkguide.txt.
There should be a link from the main page as well.

The version I'm looking at is as of 2005. And, when last I looked at the
main page, there was no link. It looks like there should be, but it's not
there.

James,
The older version was replaced last night. Look again, and you should
find the most recent document.

Yes, I did refresh the page after seeing that email and it was the updated
copy. My mistake.

The user's guide can be found in the git repository and in the
speakup-doc Debian package. You can also press Insert+F1 to get help
and do "modinfo speakup" to get startup parameters. Thanks to Samuel
for pointing out modinfo and that the latest guide is in git.
