Hi folks
I hate to be the bearer of bad news. I just got off the phone with Marry.
She informed me that Kirk took a spill on some ice and broke his hip.
He's supposed to be getting a plate and some screws today. She said he's
in fairly good spirits.

Frank, this is sad indeed. I hope for a speedy recovery and as little
pain as possible.

Oh, dear. This most certainly is bad news. Very, very sorry to hear this.
Here's hoping your recovery, Kirk, is quick and relatively painless.
Fortunately, the medical folks are fairly good at fixing hips up these days, so I believe we can expect a full recovery for you.

This is very bad news indeed. I do hope that Kirk has a speedy recovery,
and let's hope its relatively painless. All the best!
May you code in the power of the source,
may the kernel, libraries, and utilities be with you,
throughout all distributions until the end of the epoch.

Hi folks. This is not good at all. But I sincerely hope that Kirk has a
speedy recovery. Pretty soon he'll be as good as new which is very
promising these days.
Wishing you all the best,
Erik

I also hope Kirk mends quickly. However if they have to put screws in
and such, I say we all might consider sending him some cans of WD40 as
he might begin to sqweek some.<grin>

What Kirk needs is a flying suit with an automatic collission avoidance
system. What happens with one of these is that the suit detects him
slipping. When that happens, helium suddenly goes into the suit getting
him slight positive buoyancy, then a small jet fires off and redirects the
suit and person wearing it such that they don't fall. Once that much has
been accomplished Kirk can let helium out of the suit and land safely.

Hey, Jude:
I love it. Can I get one next time it snows in DC? Or next time I go
north?
This is definitely a winner.

I keep on telling the commercial development folks in the Navy they need
to work on this, but all they come back with is that it's infeasible.

I would strongly suggest an auto-release mechanism for the dog harness as
well, or not only will you have a safety suite, you might also end up with
a portable gallows.

Right, the release for the dog would have to be both automatic and manual
so that if the automatic didn't work it could be overriden by the manual.

Can I borrow the suit on snowy days too? That walk to the bus in 8

One final comment on the suit, lets make sure the navigation system is
not using any microslop software. Must be Linux-based.

Ahh but Macro Slop used to have that motto, "Where do you want to go
today?" Of course they didn't ensure you getting there in one piece:).
Not only linux would be in order but it should have a speakup-patched kernel.

When windows 98 original first came out, I heard a good alternative to that motto. I believe the original comercial was something like:
"Microsoft windows 98, where do you want to go today?"
The alternative went:
"Microsoft windows 98, which computer do you want to crash today?"
