Friends,

Sorry I'm still writing this from my wife's winblows box. I will someday order me a new motherboard for m Linux box or sit down and get speech yackin' on my firewall where the mail lives. I am in the process of selling my house so haven't had time to order a board and hope UPS can deliver it with folks pooring in and out of here. Man its tough having to run out half a dozen times a night after working all day so someone can plod through your house.<grin>
Well here's the question. I may have to go dialup until I can either get ADSL or cable in my new home which will be some month/months away assuming i sell. I think someone mentioned a service that was free or really cheap I could use perhaps for checking my mail and such. I would appreciate any info on this or at least if in fact this is the list I read it on. I could go search the archives, but in the event time becomes a problem, any help is appreciated.
The other question is that obviously once I have to give up my current ADSL line, my domain will have no server to receive mail. I was wondering if it would be possible to have my mail queued on a server I could then use fetchmail to pull it down from. I don't get that much traffic and its jst my wife and I. I'd hate to loose touch with the list and all you good people, but I'll likely be living at my folks for a minute while I settle the mess of moving.
Oh don't let anyone tell you selling or buying a home is fun cause its not, it sucks.<grin>
Any advise on what my options are would e really appreciated.

the service I use is
http://www.access4free.com
They send you all the settings in E-mail and there is only a 5 dollar setup
fee after that the service is free for the first 10 hours and then if you
use the service for 11 hours the cost to you is 1 dollar. The setup fee is
only a one time payment. If you use the service for 20 hours the cost to
you is 10 dollars. If you use it for 21 hours and over the cost to you is
still ten dollars. After your 20th hour the service for that month is
unlimited. 
You are going to ask how do they make their money. Well if you need to call
their technical support department for any reason configuration, etc. They
charge like 6 dollars a call, but honestly I never call because I use it
when I travel, and if it is down then so what normally when I travel
internet is not that important, but seriously it has never been down for me. 
anyway if you travel a lot and do not believe you'd use it more than the
ten hours and even if you go over, I'd rather pay the 6 dollars if I really
needed it then have to pay for technical support when I don't use it. The
services works on all Operating Systems as it is just a normal PPP connection.

They even provide configuration instructions for Linux!  Okay, it's for
use under X, but at least they are aware.:)  A nice service indeed--I keep
an account for my lap top.

Patrick,

Thanks for the information. I think this service would work perfectly for my
needs. I'll check out their site and see what dialup access they have in my
area. Yeah moving can make for some real fun.:)

Hi,

     Send me a list of user names and you can pull it down from 
Speakup.octothorp.org.  It'll take a little coordination.  When your 
ADSL line is about to go away, let me know so I can configure sendmail to 
deliver mail to the users instead of queuing it for you as it does now.

Thanks very much. Actually Greg offered and offered to do primary dns for
me. I'll keep your offer in mind in the event something comes up, but trust

Ps. I got quite the deal on the house, well an offer. The gent came by today
to see the house which I wasn't expecting. Nothing like being half dressed,
doorbell rings, someone yells hello, dog is barking like a nut, yelling at
people to wait outside while I get dog while I'm really trying to get
dressed, of course they didnt' call ahead, and then he keeps asking about
making an offer and I say call Jack my agent. Well sure enough I get a call
and I was asking $149,950, he offers $149,950, $3,000 as a deposite, and I
pay no closing costs. Add that to the fact its a conventional loan so no FHA
where I'd pay about $400 in junk fees and so well assuming the inspection
turns up nothing horrible, apraiser doesn't screw me to baddly, I'll get
some money out of the deal. THen I get to find where to put it. GOing out
tomorrow and look, but hell so far all the stuff we've seen on paper have no
associations so an antenna is possible. This could be good.
