Hello list. I know that you can use speakup in gentoo with a external
synth, but, is there support using software speach? Guess it's really
not needed as you can do most of it through ssh, but, figured I would
ask. I did a search on google for software speach in gentoo and only
found things from a few years ago. Either I did not search enough,
or, it was not there. Any ideas would be great.

I seen a very minimal project that is planned to work with speakup as a
software synth however I forget the name of the project. It's there
nonetheless.

Hi Geremy,

The latest version of speechd-up in gentoo is set up to handle this and
could use some testing. To get it, do the following:

echo app-accessibility/speechd-up >> /etc/portage/package.keywords
emerge speechd-up

Then add speechd-up to the default runlevel.

Please report bugs to http://bugs.gentoo.org.

Thanks,
