Hi. At the moment there is no stable GUI screen readers on the market.
However, Gnopernicus is under development, and it is shaping up to be a
pretty good GUI screen reader when completed. It will have software speech,
supports some braille displays, built in magnification, and what I can from
the code it is going to be pretty good. You'll just have to hold onto your
hat for a few months for it to get to a stable release.

This is good news to my ears. I wonder though will it support some hardware synthesizer too? software speech tends to slow down the system and if you only have a
single channel sound card you are out of luck hearing them wonderful event sounds.

I can't wait:).

Thanks

Hi. Unfortunately, at this moment no hardware synths are supported. That
doesn't mean however that there won't be down the road. What we have right
now is proof of concept and make sure
that we have the basic screen reader, and then can add other display
drivers, hardware synths, etc down the road.

Hi, you have to checkout Gnopernicus, Gnome Speech, and Gnome Mag, out of
cvs on the Gnome.org server. However, before you can even get started with
building, debugging, and toying with it you need to download the Gnome 2.0
desktop and build it from source which is not exactly fun either.
Then, you will need either Viavoice Outloud or Festival to get speech going.

Hth.

            Hello list,
Do you have the mail message of volume 1797?
in that mail Please see the first message. In that One person enquired
about gui linux.
I replied saying to use Emacspeak or to find out about gnome by visiting
the websight of gnome I.E.
www.gnome.org
I am a windows user and learning linux.
Instead of giving reply to him all people started worrying about html.
I used Microsoft outlook express.
Sorry if it causes any inconvince by generating html documents.
I will take apt care.
As a windows user I feel gui will be the most confortable.
No doubt that speakup is very good for instillation of o.s. it would be
better all visually disabled persons can access GUI on linux.
Is there any screen reader to access gui on linux like jaws?
Any help in this regard is appreciated.
Thanks.
