[Jes and guide dog Harley]

I would like all members to read this and read this carefully.

Because of one man, Kevin somebody, this list which is supposed to be divoted to helping speakup users trouble shoot problems and
experience the world of Linux with ease has now become a central list for flaming and has drifted way way way off topic, so much
so that it seems that almost every post from anyone on this list has to do with this excessive and unnecesarry thread, started by
one man who has no idea about Linux or Alsa and who wants to just take over the whole Linux industry. I'll have Kirk know, that
this thread has caused about 30 to 50 messages to be passed between pissed off list members and one little somebody who thinks he
knows what he's talking about when in actuality he does not. This thread has been going on for four or five days now, and it's
time for the moderator of this list to do his job. Forget about /dev/nul. Forget about kill files. Forget for a second that
computers can be our own automated list problem solvers by deleting messages from annoying individuals, and remember that there is
one human, one man, who is in charge of this list's
operation. Kirk, I'd suggest that before half of us leave because of  this tyrant, you'd make sure that Kevin is banned from this
list immediately. I go
so far as to ask you Kirk, how could you have replied to Joe Norton's question about dectalk and other threads, but have refused
to do something about this controling dictator? As our moderator, please do us a favor before we lose our cool!

firstly, kirk is like most of us on this list. well, allright. the rest of 
us should be. he gives kevin's post the response they deserve. a big fat 
nothing.
a good many of us, myself included have flamed this moron to no avail.
it's about time we gave hmi the silent treatment. ignore it and hope it

I am sympathetic to Kirk on this.  A list moderator is not a baby sitter.
It always takes two people to argue.  If you ignore crap, it goes away to
someone who pays attention to it.  I have used kill files once, but it
really spoils a persons day.  The best solution is to have everyone just
stop the garbage.

Doh! Isn't this what I said to do 3 days ago? Once you ignore it, 
it will disappear. Like magic. As for me, I use mutt and a quick 
ctrl-d makes life good. I believe that Kirk has the same 
philosophy, and I also believe that someone who believes as 
strongly in the Open Source concept also believes in the freedom 
of speech just as strongly. This is an open forum, anyone can 
voice their opinions about anything they want here. That's one of 
the reasons that I am still here. I believe as I am sure that 
Kirk and other's do, that if someone wants to voice an opinion 
here they should feel that they can, no matter the consequences. 
Look, how many of us flame Redmond? Is this not contrary to 
popular opinion? As with anything else, it should be your 
responsibility to censor the material that you are subjecting 
yourself to. Do not presume to have others do it for you, or you 
loose the ability to think for yourself. That said, I think I 
will now go get a cup of coffee and continue to read my mail.

Ah and I couldn't have said it better myself. Yes I too carried on so in 
a manner that was unnecessary. We could all stand to learn something 
from our captain. I to shall reframe from carrying this on. We'll not 
change the minds of some, but we can save the drive in the server 
unnecessary stress and ware.
