New user, where to begin

Hey gang.  OK, I'm ready to rock and roll!I just got 2 pentium 266
machines with 4 gig drives, and I already have a speakout synthesizer.
I'm thinking that I can run redhat 8 on this machine.  
This old machine still has win 95 on it but from what I hear I can have
it talking from format to shutdown.
Any ideas on where to start?  Time to learn some new stuff.
Any help would be appreciated.
Any idea where I can get redhat?

Hi, Jed.
My suggestion
 is start with the little howto on the speakup site written for RedHat 8.
ftp://linux-speakup.org/pub/speakup/disks/redhat/HOWTO_INSTALL8.html
 Speakup will read the entire installation to you, and will read almost
everything from startup to shutdown except for x-windows stuff.
However, one day when you become a seasoned Linux user you can look into
trying gnopernicus for X-windows which is beginning to be usable now.
