network broke, need help configuring connection please?

Hay list,
How would I configure my gateway, and subnet mask?
every time I try to use apt, things don't work, and I think it is having issues connecting to the net.

You want to look at /etc/network/interfaces, still assuming you're
running debian of course. See the interfaces(5) man page for more
details.

Look at the Kernel routing tables, with the command "route".
