hi, generally you want /home to be the largest partition. At least in my
case.
My Red Hat os is on a 40 gb, and I gave 5 gb for installs, about 256 mb for
swap, and the rest was my home partition.

I figured I could load my home partition with downloadds, books, mp3 files,
etc. What is nice about splitting home away from the rest is you can
reinstall or upgrade without trashing your data, personally settings, etc. I
reinstalled Mandrake 8.2 and wonder of wonders Gnome came up with the same
settings I had before blowing away the files, and reinstalled. All because I
left /home alone.

Ok, well I've got about 10gb free, so I would assume that should be enough.

Hi Thomas,

Since Win4Lin requires use of the GUI under Linux, it would not presently be
accessible until a screen reader like Gnupernicus is ready for primetime.

Thanks.

No, I was just curious about whether the linux gui's would be more easy for
me to get used to linux to being with. I've been on windows ever since I
lost my sight, and I just thought maybe it would be simpler, but I guess not.

Well, I do have one question. Someone suggested that I make a home
partition, but how big do I make it? I've still got plenty of space on my
hd right now, but its going fast and I want to make sure I give it the
right amount it needs.

So, another wonderful benefit of Linux, Speakup, Emacspeak, Yasr, Gnopernicus, and the rest, is that the benefit of
computing will no longer be reserved for rich blind people. I think it's about time. For example, it's downright
embarassing how white the participants at CSUN are. One might think there are no other ethnicities among people with
disabilities.

No. Speakup is a kernel patch. The gui screen reader slash braille display driver slash magnification utility is called

Hi all,

Jason, I think you will find that you enjoy getting to know Linux. If
you are a documents reader, then you should be in clover! If not,
there are people who can help you to interpret what you read and to
put it into action. Good luck! I started with Red hat and switched

Hey, Linux has a GUI interface, if that's what you think is so irresistable. Most of us will have at least played around
with it by the end of the year, I expect.

And, I wonder what we'll do with that $1,100 we don't give to that company in Florida. Hmmm, I know what I'll do with
mine ...

will compete with ms in certain sectors of our economy, say in the schools
of higher learning and large corperate businesses, though I doubt linux
will be a serious competitor in the home pc sector.

All it takes is a reclass to redefine most of them, but as I said I won't
argue about that. There's 2 things that'll keep windows the standard os for
years to come, simplicity and inertia. Do I need to say more?

If you're in windblows, and there is something for which you don't have set files or scripts for your screen reader, hearing "custom control" as you move around is indeed very intuitive, (yes, I'm being sarcastic).
