Hi gang,
I posted a similar question to the alsa-user list, but the smart money is
on this list for an answer.
I have an SB Live card and get the message:
snd: card out of range (0-0)
after a modprobe snd-card-emu10k1. I initially ignored it, because I was
able to get some of the card working. Problem has now come back to bite
when I try to use midi. the snd module can't find a sequencer device.
Any thoughts appreciated.

First, did you build it with sequencer support? If not, go back and run
configure with the "--with-sequencer=yes" option. It does not build
sequencer support by default. Then recompile and reinstall. Now, load:
snd-seq
snd-seq-midi
snd-seq-oss
and see if that works.

Thanks, Jacob,
In my case the missing module was snd-synth-emu10k1. I found this "hint"
in the readme file for pmidi.

Hey, Chris!
So, did you get the MIDI interface working as well?
Regards,
Vic

Vic,
Yes, I did get the midi interface working. Still getting that "out of
range" message. Perhaps a newer version of alsa would cure it. I never
realized how complicated these sound card are.
