Hi,
Maybe one of those you're thinking of, or another, from the UK:
http://www.beam.ltd.uk/xvil
It uses Viavoice for voice synth. I have not used it myself. Some folks hwo've tried it have had poor success, but according to the beam people it's a free beta under development. Can't hurt to encourage them to continue development, eh?

I was under the impression that the 3 or 4 projects out there aimed at developping an x windows speech server haven't yet produced any usable results.
Where did you get this from?

There is a gnome-based project to develop screen-reader for gnome. There is
the Ultrasonix project which has produced at least one version which
supposedly did something when run on Solaris. There is something (which I
can't remember the name of) from Germany which is/was supposed to be a
commercial attempt at an X-based screen reader, but never heard anything
more.
These are all I've heard of. Anyone got more to add to this list?

I found it at.
http://www.henge.com/~brian
For whatever reason, I can't seem to get it to compile properly. However,
I think it only supports the dectalk at this point unless of course, it's
a software version of dectalk.
take a look at that site though.
