Icecast 1 and two work very well under gnu/linux.  Typically you can
use ices, darkice or liveice for streaming.  You can checkout my
stream at http://bumpy.braille.uwo.ca:9000/egoplay.ogg.  That is a 128
kbps ogg/vorbis stream.  There is also a 64 kbps stream at the same
address with the mount point /egoplay64.ogg.  There are a number of
folks that use various combinations to stream to shoutcast, freecast
and on acb radio interactive.

I think we're looking at setting up a real media stream.
not too sure about that.

ok. as for dsp plugins for freeamp, I don't quite know about that.
there are however, stand alone apps like liveice which I use, darkice
which I also use sometimes and iceedge, and dj in a box.
both those apps I've not played with yet.
but all of them are highly configurable and can be customised to suit your
needs.

Greg. try using gmt or utc whatever your preference is to call it.
it's usually between 14:00 hours and 16:00 hours gmt friday afternoons. of
if for some reason I don't do it thqat day it's saturday during those same
times.
but as I stated and will state again, I'll post as soon as I start to
stream.

I wonder if the problem I ran into has anything to do with speakup's new 
changes, or the 2.4.18 kernel?

Yesterday afternoon I used cvs to patch a freshly downloaded 2.4.18. There 
were no errors, but when I booted my numeric keypad was very messed up. 
Screen review was sporadic--and seemed only to work, if it worked at all, 
with numlock off. When numlock was on, pressing the number keys on the 
numeric yielded numbers, but it yielded the wrong numbers, e.g. when I 
pressed 4, I heard 7. These numbers also became part of my command line.

Needless to say, I left 2.4.18 for my older reliable kernel! <grin>

Hi

Very interesting!  I've had similar behaviour that you describe but it's
not from the new kernel of 2.4.18 nor the newest speakup.  I'm using
2.4.17 and it seems ages since I patched the kernel.  I'd patch the
UK keyboard map with the speakup map and after running an apt-get update
then upgrade, I had these problems.  Therefore, could it be related to
the keymap?

As a number of folks have already mentioned it's a speakupmap.map
problem using an old map.  It was necessary to change some of the key
function lookup allocations to provide the numlock feature.  If
anyone uses a separate keymap from the one built-in to the kernel at
compile time will run into this problem.  I won't iterate how to fix
the problem Jim Wantz has already done that well.
