Hi all.
Those of you using debian, can you please share what package one needs
to install to get unix2dos
and dos2unix? I've searched for both with aptitude, and couldn't find
them, and from what I recall, todos and fromdos were
slackware-specific programs. Thanks in advance.

The chances are that mtools replaces them. You can use the mtools to move
files to and from dos easily. try man mtools
there are also Ltools--for dos, that do the same thing.

Apt doesn't have them in the repository as separate utils?
Take care,

hay greg!
Have you heard of darwinports?
That is kinda cool, something you might want to think of installing.
I don't know if you want to let users install stuff or not, but, they have
some awesome stuff.

But you will get todos and fromdos, just like in SW.

Hi Cheryl,
You might also try the apt-cache program. Check out either the search
or show options for this program.

Yes, debian does indeed have todos and fromdos; they are right here on my
system.
They are both part of sysutils.
By the way, if you ever want to find a package or something that may be
contained in a package for debian, there are two (probably more) nice options.
You can search your /var/lib/dpkg/available file with "more" "less" or in your
favorite editor.
Also, you can go to www.debian.org. choose the "search" link, then the
"packages" link. You can either put your search term in the blank somewhere in
those links or hit an additional link that says "search contents of packages".
Then you fill in the field to which that takes you.
No problem answering it onlist; just thought you might like to know some of your
options.
