I am wondering whether some would be willing to help me with the speakup project. I purchased a cournel with speakup already installed. I am using a braille'n speak but still cannot get it to work. 1. What are the settings I should set on the braille'n speaks status menu before I put it in speech box mode? 2. Is there anything I would need to setup within Fedora? Any help or direction would be appreciated!

The factory defaults, 9600 baud, no parity, 8 databits, 1 stopbits,
software handshake, though some posts made to this list in the past
claim that handshake should be set to hardware. Software handshake has
always worked fine for me though, and hardware hasn't, not all of the
time at least.

Hello Charles: I am wondering if you are giving the speakup
synthesizer parametre on the command line of the boot prompt? When
you get to the boot prompt you usually type linux speakup_synth=bns.
A lot of the other distributions use different names like knoppix or
grml or whatever but you need to specify the synth on all of them
because they are compiled to support all the speakup synths so you
need to tell the kernel which one you want it to try. How you
actually get to the boot prompt depends on the boot loader used and
how it is configured. Many times it will stop at the boot prompt
automatically but if not then you need to tap the shift key either one
will do just after the computer beeps when booting until you get the
boot prompt.
good luck.
Kirk
