Fedora 4, can't access consoles?

Hi all,

I  just did a telnet install of Fedora 4.  Everything seemed to go well enough.  After the instalation, the system came up to First boot.  I got through first boot with sighted assistance; However, I can't access the text mode consoles.  If for example, I attempt to do control+alt+f1, I get a pink box outlining the edges of my screen and nothing else, no login prompt etc.  When this happens, the only Thing I can do is reboot with control alt delete.  has anyone seen this before and if so, is there a workable solution?  
this one's going to be fun, kind of like the chicken and the egg--  I don't see how I can troubleshoot this without any accessibility, but if I can't get to the console mode, I can't install accessibility-- grumble!

Okay, this gets more and more interesting.  I googled for Fedora pink 
console and after a little digging, found a link to the following bug that 
apparently causes this as well as other video corruption related issues:

so after reading this, I did a few tests and I am indeed able to access the 
console; However, from a visual perspective, it is completely unreadable.
This is sort of funny in an ironic sense.  I have sighted assistance here 
and I was hoping to get help importing the yum gpg key so I could then 
installBRLTTY, a telnet server, Gnopernicus, etc.  However, now neither of 
us can see what's on the screen!  There's a fix for this issue in the above 
bug report but how I'm supposed to do this without any accessibility is 
beyond me.

Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

Braillenote PK and Linux

I've been away for a while due to work, but got a question.  I was running 
Linux on an Athlon 1.3 GHZ processor, but have now migrated to a P4 3.0 
GHZ.  I want to install Linux on my new system, but don't have any ISA 
slots for my doubletalk.  I do however have a braillenote PK.  Can I use 
that as a synth in Linux?  If so, can someone give me some advice or point 
me toward any howtos?  I'm thinking about installing Fedora or possibly 
Debbian.  Probably will stick with Fedora though, since that's what I was 
running before and it ran pretty flawlessly.  Any help in this matter would 
be greatly appreciated.

Brltty with the BrailleNote as a Braille display.  Unfortunately, unless
things have changed, the current version of Speakup doesn't work with the
Keynote synthesizer.  If Speakup could be made to work with this, you could
use the BrailleNote's synthesizer as it emulates the Keynote.  I believe
someone on this list got the Keynote to work, but I'm not exactly sure how
that was done.  Perhaps someone with more knowledge then myself can
enlighten all of us.<smile>

I'll second that, I just tried to install Fedora using a BrailleNote as a

no braille worked either, just thought it would be worth a try, but nothing 
was coming out of the serial port.

Hi Chris,

The Keynote PC refers to the old ISA internal Keynote gold cards.  If there 
were a driver for the serial based Keynote Gold synths, including the 
BrailleNotes, it would specify that it is for the Keynote SA; However, to my 
knowledge, no such driver exists as of yet.

Hi there, I was the one who got the keynote working with speakup. I used the 
accent sa driver to do this. Just specify speakup_synth=acntsa as kernel 
parameter.
This get the unit speaking, but control, and speech interuptionn don't quite 
work, as the codes beeing sent arn't quite compatible...
Anyway, I'd advise using enter with backspace to silence speech.

Since you did a telnet install, I'd think you could try to log in 
remotely.  Telnet might not be enabled, but SSH may well be enabled by 
default.  It's worth a shot, anyway.

Bring it up in single user mode and debug your problem.

Your easiest solution may be to put it into runlevel three via the
relevant statement in /etc/inittab. Look for a line like:

id:5:initdefault:

and change the 5 to 3

It sounds to me like you did not get a proper installation, or this
would not be the case.
