Hi all,
I am attempting to install redhat on my laptop using bns as my speechbox. Does anyone know what or where the settings are (baud, paridy, handshake, ...) between speakup and bns?
Also, does anyone know if speakup has a software synth?
Thanks for your help,
Jason Custer

Hi Jason,
The settings for the bns should be 9600,8,n. Which version of RH are
you installing? I hope to have the disks for version 7 (Guinness) on the
speakup site soon.
Any questions, call or write.

Thanks. That's what I thaught. Only one problem, I get the bns configured,
put in my redhat 6.1 disk, boot up, type "text", wait for the kernel to
load, and get nothing but beeps. I wait until the cd spins up, but hear no
speech. Any ideas? Am I doing something wrong?
I am using bnsb.bin from the speakup ftp scite.
Thanks for the info,
Jason

BNS settings are the same as for most synths: 9600 baud, no parity, 8 databits and 1 stopbit.
There is no software synth for Speakup.

Vic

The bns settings are 9600 baud, no parity, 8 data bits, 1 stop bit,
software handshaking. I had a problem with the synth autodetection (as in
it refused to work) so I modded linux/drivers/char/speakup/speakup_bns.c
to only check ttys0 (the port I was using) and assume the bns was found.

You have to set hardware handshake mode on the bns and use the chord-s
speech box mode.
