Hi All,
I recently modified the kernel for the boot cd of Unattended
(unattended.sourceforge.net) to contain speakup. This is an app for
installing windows over a network completely unattended, and it now uses
a linux bootcd to start the install. Would anyone be interested in a
copy of the iso?

But what can you do with it?

Yes please, if you e-mail me privately, I have a server here in Worcester
(working over SFTP) that would be great to put the ISO on, as long as we use
SFTP, there's unlimited band width and prety fafst speeds.
HTH,

I would be interested in eventually having the ISO but what I think I
would rather have is a description of what steps you took and the best
way to do it. I wouldn't mind building the ISO myself as the experience
for me would be geeky fun and educational:).

It wasn't all that hard. All you really need is a system running
kernel 2.6 (I used slackware for this).
The steps I toke were:
1. Grabbed the latest sources from cvs.
2. in the linuxboot direcotry you need to make 2 changes to the
makefile.
first, change the version of wireless-tools to 28 instead of 27.
second find the line where it connects to samba.org to grab samba, and
add /old-versions to the end of the url.
3. Run make download.
4. Patch speakup into the kernel source it just downloaded for you.
5. edit misc/isolinux.cfg to give it a timeout setting of whatever you
like.
6. Run make iso, and answer the questions about including speakup
when they come up from make oldconfig.
7. Wait.
It takes quite a while to build since you have to compile quite a few
packages. took about 45 minutes on my 8-proc Xeon box.

I mean, well, if it were not for Linux I might be roaming the streets looking
for drugs or prostitutes or something. Hannu and Linus have my highest
admiration (apple polishing mode off).

ok, I just need to repackage the distribution (I had to use the latest
cvs from Unattended in order to build the cd) and then I can find a
place to put it so people can download.

In most countries selling harmful things like drugs is punishable.
Then howcome people can sell Microsoft software and go unpunished?
