Greetings! I'm trying to upgrade from FC2 to FC6 using the CD images. I used the images that the NCFTP DIR command tells me were created on 1 December. I checked the downloaded images using sha1sum, checked each CD with sha1sum after burning it, and checked them all again via the process at the beginning of the installation. They passed. But after the thing checked dependencies and apparently began the install/upgrade, I got the following message:
Error
The file scim-m17n-0.2.0-6.fc6.i386.rpm cannot be opened. This is due to a missing file or perhaps a corrupt package. Please verify your installation images and that you have all the required media.
If you reboot, your system will be left in an inconsistent state that will likely require reinstallation.
I had the choice to retry or reboot. I rebooted. A quick check suggest that my old system's probably intact.
I'll be very grateful for any help with this. After FINALLY seeming to have figured out how to burn good images consistently (using "disk at once" rather than cdrecord's default, "track at once"), I dared to hope this might be my great upgrade day. Anyway, thanks!

You cannot upgrade from 2 straight to 6.
There has been too many significant changes to make such a version jump.
Your best bet is to tell the installer that you are installing, (not
upgrading).
If you are worried about loosing existing data, then I strongly recommend
that you backup all your data before you proceed with the new install.
In fact, regardless, you should always do a backup of your data, and
configuration directories as part of an upgrade or fresh install process.
Good luck.

Thanks very much. I'd wondered about that, but nothing I read about
upgrading--and I didn't find much--told me one way or the other.
No, I'm not worried about the data. I just wanted to avoid repartitioning.
Maybe I'll have better partitioning for it.

No need to repartition. However, reformat the partitions. This is an
option in the Custom menu.

Thanks for that info. I'll return to the battlefield tomorrow.
"It's not reasonable to expect to upgrade from FC2 all the way to FC6."
It is reasonable, though, to expect that sort of info in an installation
guide. I just rechecked the one for FC6, and didn't find it in the section
on upgrading. I also hadn't found it in the one for FC5. This is in
contrast with the installation guide for Red Hat 9, which specifies that you
can upgrade to Red Hat 9 from versions 6.2 and later. Maybe there's a good
reason to omit such info from the Fedora guides, but I doubt it.

JS Writes: "

This is bad advice.
There was a change in the Ext3 code between FC2 and FC3.
I know from personal experience because I was caught by it. By not
allowing for repartitioning and formatting, I suddenly had disks that
errored out and would not mount.
So, although I contradict Janina, I strongly suggest in the least,
reformat your disks, and better yet, go through the partitioning process
to ensure that any changes are allowed to happen.

Yep, I got the same thing (different package, though)...and all my
media passed the media check.
Now what'd I do with install disc number -99?

It's not reasonable to expect to upgrade from FC2 all the way to FC6.
Too much has changed inbetween. Better to reinstall.
