Hi guys,
Has anyone been able to get Ttsynth to work with Speech-dispatcher under
Debian or Ubuntu?
I have the Ttsynth package installed on the machine and tried setting the
output module of Speech-dispatcher to ibmtts.
When I restarted Speech-dispatcher I didn't get any speech.
Also tried a simple test by telnetting to port 6560 on the localhost and
trying to get Speech-dispatcher to output things using the speak command but
this didn't really work either.
Anyone have any suggestions for me?

Thanks,
Tom

Unfortunately, you also have to rebuild speech-dispatcher against
ibmtts/ttsynth to use it.

Note that if you intend to use ttsynth with speakup, there is a small
program you can download and build from the ttsynth website called
ttsynth-speakup-connector, that takes the output of speakup and sends it
straight to ttsynth.

Hi Tom, if you have SD installed from a package, it most likely doesn't
include the ibmtts module (due to licensing issues). You will need to
compile Speech Dispatcher from source. You need to have TTSynth SDK
installed. See the INSTALL file included with the Speech Dispatcher
package for more information.

Best regards, Tomas

Thomas, This is not correct. There is no longer any license impediment
to packaging drivers for TTSynth (ibmtts). Our friends at IBM succeeded
some time ago in getting the interfaces released under LGPL, so the path
is clear for Speech Dispatcher, Gnome-Speech, etc. In fact, IBM names
Speech Dispatcher on their Source Forge page where the API is published.
See the following URI:
