Hi speakup,
I just wonder if there's a mail server solution for
Red Hat? Yes i know there's Sendmail, but is there another one
that's easy to configure? (Someone said Sendmail was somewhat hard
to configure.)
Also i wonder if there's a mail server with Pop3, Imap, (not
necessary) and webmail options?
Thanks

Mail servers have, to a point, a need to be complex, as they can do a lot and this takes a bit to configure. Having said that, I found sendmail just plain confusing and abandoned it for exim. I use Debian however which comes with a fairly well documented default configuration file and a script to help you configure it. I can't speak to Red Hat, however. > Also i wonder if there's a mail server with Pop3, Imap, (not > necessary) and webmail options? In the unix world, these things are generally done by seperate pieces. You can get the imap server from The University of Washington and I'm guessing there are other solutions out there. There are several POP servers available. And there are also several webmail packages you can experiment with. Have a hunt through your distribution, there's bound to be at least one of each there. It comes with Redhat 9. It is supposed to be easier to setup and more secure than sendmail. Pop3, pop3s, imap and imaps are all included with Redhat 9, also. You can find more info about postfix at www.postfix.org Redhat has an older howto at http://www.redhat.com/support/resources/howto/RH-postfix-HOWTO/book1.html -----Original Message----- From: speakup-admin@braille.uwo.ca [mailto:speakup-admin@braille.uwo.ca] On Behalf Of Krister Ekstrom Sent: Saturday, October 25, 2003 6:27 AM To: speakup Subject: Mail server solutions for RedHat? -----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: RIPEMD160 Hi speakup, I just wonder if there's a mail server solution for Red Hat? For web email, squirrelmail is included with Redhat 9. I have not set this up, but it is way down there, somewhere, on my todo list. I thought Squirrelmail was something for the Gnome/kde environments and so didn't look at these. Ya know, sometimes, it isn't all clear what the different programs do from the names they have, if you know what i mean., but after all, it's like that in Windows too. Who would have guessed that The bat! was a mail client in Windows? - -- /Krister crisekstrom@bredband.net Get pgp keys here: mailto:crisekstrom@bredband.net?subject=get_pgp_keys -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.2.2-nr2 (Windows XP) iD8DBQE/msxwODlJeoMTOQsRA7roAJ4pZrzLnNSQvfSZd+E+sQ1BtqAztwCgze4P 3fxzkBsuRcw73eqhH6kBUcE= =wmnt -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- ^ permalink raw reply [flat|nested] 5+ messages in thread
